## About the Project

A global mail carrier runs a beloved annual program allowing children to send letters to Santa, which are fulfilled by generous donors. Each letter, however, contains personally identifiable information (PII), requiring a team of workers to manually review, flag, and redact sensitive data before processing. The client needed a secure, AI-driven solution to automate this process, improving efficiency and ensuring compliance with privacy regulations.

Leveraging [Wippy AI’s multi-agent system](https://www.wippy.ai/), Spiral Scout developed an AI-powered PII detection platform that could scan handwritten letters, identify personal details, and automatically flag or redact sensitive information—reducing the manual workload while improving accuracy and scalability.

 Challenges Manual PII Detection Was Time-Intensive and Prone to Error

 

The program relied on human workers to manually review and redact sensitive information, such as names, addresses, and contact details. This process was slow, inconsistent, and costly.

We deployed Wippy AI’s PII detection models, which use optical character recognition (OCR) and natural language processing (NLP) to identify, classify, and redact sensitive information in real-time. The AI agents adapted over time, improving accuracy with each processed letter.
